Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the ShutSafe Home Kit.

Getting Started

What is the ShutSafe Home Kit?

ShutSafe is a home-readiness system that helps you clearly document and quickly locate important household shutoffs and home systems.

Why would I need one?

During a leak, suspected gas problem, electrical issue or other urgent situation, ShutSafe helps household members and service professionals find critical shutoff information without relying on memory.

Is it only for handy homeowners?

No. ShutSafe is designed for homeowners, families, caregivers, renters where permitted, property professionals and anyone responsible for helping care for a home.

Installation

What locations can I record?

You can document important locations such as the main water shutoff, gas shutoff, electrical panel, water-heater shutoff, HVAC filters, GFCI outlets, solar PV rapid shutdown and battery energy-storage equipment.

Does ShutSafe locate or verify my shutoffs?

No. The homeowner or a qualified professional must identify and verify each shutoff or system location. ShutSafe provides an organized place to record that information.

Where should I install the ShutSafe placard?

Install the placard indoors in a visible, accessible and agreed-upon location. Do not install it outdoors or where it will be exposed to weather, direct sunlight or excessive moisture.

Are the included markers designed for outdoor use?

No. The included markers are not UV-resistant and may fade in direct sunlight. They should be used indoors or in protected locations and checked periodically for readability.

Safety

Will ShutSafe prevent floods, fires or other emergencies?

No. ShutSafe is an organizational and informational aid. It does not prevent emergencies, detect hazards, monitor equipment or automatically shut off utilities.

Does ShutSafe replace 911 or professional assistance?

No. Call 911 or the appropriate emergency service whenever needed. Do not enter an unsafe area or operate equipment you are not qualified or authorized to use.

Should I test or operate every shutoff myself?

Not necessarily. If you are uncertain about a shutoff, utility or home system, ask a qualified plumber, electrician, HVAC professional, utility representative or other appropriate professional to identify and verify it.

What is the return policy?
